Hi Richie, some more great tools there. Wouldn't it be good if there was one application that pulled together the best of these different tools?

Everyone is talking about Twitter and for those starting out, Krishna De has a really nice video here on the basics.

Hi Brendan,

Compliments on the article, it draws together some interesting apps/services to help get more benefit out of twitter that are now on my to-do list.

Just to add 1-2 other apps/services which may be bubbling under outside the top 10.

1. Twitterfeed.com which feeds your blog posts to twitter and then provides a tracking facility similar to short.ie on usage related stats.

2. On the mini pc tweeting, I would add Spaz to the list which is a mobile / cross platform app

3. In relation to twitterdeck, I came across a useful video on twitter management with twitterdeck on youtube (/www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxXHpsMKPps)

4. Twitter Aanlyzer - touted as the "Google analytics" for Twitter. I have just started to use this recently and still on a learning curve, so I would be interested to hear other views.

Okay Donagh, I've spent a bit more time on Tweetdeck and while I'm impressed I think it must take a little time to figure out the best way to manage it. What columns to put in place, how to get your groups up and running and how to get your Twitter search integrated in correctly. I know that lots of people use it all the time so it's probably worth the bit of effort.

I think I prefer Twibble because it's one less application to have open on your desktop, but then I don't really count myself a power-user so I probably don't need such a comprehensive application.

On a separate note, I see that Eoin Kennedy has put a nice list of tools together in his Twitter Checklist.

Agreed it can be overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it it's very straight forward. You can customize the interface by adding or deleting columns, depending on your preferences. So you can limit it to one column or increase it to 6,7,8 (not sure of the max allowed). I find it most helpful for finding out whose tweeting about Loopthing and gaining some insight.

Short.ie looks like a good tool too. I see the IIA are tweeting with it this morning. Is it Irish built? They should grab the .com while it's up for sale if they can.

Campbell, will certainly include IGOpeople when I see your new feature in the flesh. Sounds very useful.

Una, please do forward on. I wrote this post as I found it difficult to find something like this elsewhere else in Ireland in particular.

Donagh, good suggestion. I have a brief reference to it in there alright (forgot the link though). I actually have it installed but hadn't used it very much. Thought the interface is a bit overwhelming, having everything coming up at once.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nice post Brendan!

Must admit that most of these Twitter tools are new to me. The one that catches my eye the most is the Twitter Poll one. Think I'll be having a further look into that!

Better tool? We'll I'm a big fan of TweetDeck. It's an app that you can download to your desktop in a matter of seconds. You can tweet from it, manage all your DM's and replies, search the Twitiscoop, create groups.

Two great things are the 12seconds feature of TweetDeck where you can record a 12 second video and share it with your followers. You can also use TweetDeck to connect to Facebook and manage that also. Worth a in my opinion!

You might like to add IGOpeople to the list Brendan, as we'll be adding few useful twitter features in the next few days.

We've added a way for businesses to manage their twitter messages in IGOpeople - messages get queued for multiple business representatives, to help manage customer contact and there is a history of all conversations with customers. Users will also be able to login to IGOpeople with their twitter account. We'd love to know what you think
